DiY: Tit fruit in crab apple
In winter, we humans always enjoy our food especially. It's cold outside, but warm and cozy inside. But while we fill our stomachs, many a bird is hopping hungry across the barren ground, with nothing to peck at. So how about hanging some fruit in the tree for the dear little birds? True to the motto: "An apple a day keeps the doctor away," here are the DIY instructions for making the most fruit in a crab apple.
This is what you need
Material:
- A board or tree slice, at least 3 cm wide
- scattered bird food
- Coconut oil
- A thin branch
- cord
Tool:
- jigsaw
- drill
- wood glue

And this is how it works
Step 1: Drawing
In the first step, you draw the desired shape on the wooden disc, for example, an apple. It's important that there is a hole in the center of the shape.
Step 2: Trace with the saw
Next, take the jigsaw and cut the marked shape out of the wood. The hole inside also needs to be cut out. Then drill a hole at the top and bottom of the shape.
Step 3: Fat melting
Melt the coconut oil in a saucepan until it's nice and liquid. Then stir the birdseed into the oil and let the mixture cool slightly before pouring it into the inner hole of your wooden disc and letting it harden.
A quick tip: Coconut oil starts to melt at around 23°C. To ensure the mixture really hardens, it's best to place the wooden disc in a shed or basement to harden.
Step 4: Fill holes
