What are flower marbles?

Flower marbles are small, brightly colored seed bombs. They are rolled from clay, soil, and seeds and then dried. Because the seeds are well embedded in the rock-hard mix of soil and clay, they don't need to be planted. Instead, you can simply throw the entire flower marble to its destination (do not bury it!). The next rain or watering will soften the flower marble and activate the seeds, which then begin to germinate.

How are the flower marbles made?

Each of our flower marbles is lovingly handcrafted. We roll most of the small seed bombs ourselves in our production facility in Nordhorn, but we also receive support from the local Lebenshilfe charity and the Meppen Prison.

First, the soil is carefully sieved to ensure our flower marbles are free of small twigs and stones. The soil is then mixed with seeds, clay powder, and water in a large blender, which then spits out a moist and sticky mass from which the flower marbles are rolled. These are then dried, making them rock-hard and ready for use for at least two years!

Are flower marbles poisonous?

Don't worry, our flower marbles are colored with natural coloring made from cornstarch and food coloring, making them completely safe. The plants that grow from our flower marbles are also non-toxic. However, we don't recommend eating them, as they simply don't taste good. ;)

How big are the flower marbles?

It depends on the product. Our flower marbles range in size from 1.5 cm to 2.5 cm, depending on the product. Since the flower marbles are hand-rolled, slight variations may occur.

When is the best time to throw out the flower marbles?

The best time to plant our flower marbles is spring. Since cold weather can impair the germination of the seeds, you should definitely wait until temperatures no longer drop below freezing at night. As a rule of thumb, remember: after the Ice Saints in May is a good time to sow flower marbles. Weather-wise, not much can go wrong after that. If it's very dry and there's no rain after sowing your flower marbles, make sure to water the seed bombs regularly if possible.

How should I store the flower marbles?

The flower marbles should be stored in a cool, dry, and dark place. Our flower marbles have a shelf life of at least two years. After that, the germination capacity of the seeds gradually decreases. By following the points mentioned above, you can extend the lifespan of the flower marbles. But let's be honest: These little colorful seed bombs are far too beautiful not to throw them out and enjoy the colorful floral splendor, right?

Can I plant the flower marbles indoors?

Of course, the marbled flowers will grow indoors, too. Just make sure they have enough space and light.

How many flower marbles fit in one square meter?

You can throw out about 25 to 30 flower marbles per square meter.

We bought the flower marbles as an additional gift for our friend's daughter. I expected the pack of marbles to be a bit larger, but otherwise I'm very happy with our choice. The packaging looks cute, and there's also a special instruction on how to use the marbles. Everything is drawn and described in a very child-friendly way. We can't say anything about the results yet; the family doesn't want to sow the marbles until spring/summer. But it's sure to be exciting for the kids!
