The history of birthdays: Since when have we been celebrating birthdays?

In fact, birthdays were not celebrated at all for a long time in our history. They first gained significance in the 15th and 16th centuries. While previously mainly deities and church name days were celebrated, the individual gained more importance at this time, and with it, birthdays also gained greater significance. The 17th century also marks the first evidence of birthday gifts , which guests brought and in return were treated to food and drink. Initially, birthdays were mainly celebrated by the nobility and wealthy people ; only gradually did birthday celebrations become common among the general population.

These days, everyone in this country celebrates their birthday once a year and invites family and friends to toast the new year of their life together. Birthday gifts and birthday cards have become an integral part of birthday celebrations.

How do you find the right birthday present?

Finding the perfect birthday present isn't always easy. It should suit the recipient and ideally be something truly special . After all, you want to make the birthday person happy on their big day! 🤩

First, you should think about what would make the birthday person happy . What hobbies does the recipient have? Do they enjoy hiking, reading, or gardening? Or would a relaxing visit to the sauna or something creative like a craft workshop be more suitable? This often gives you some initial ideas about what kind of birthday present to give. Of course, you can also simply ask if there are any specific wishes you can fulfill.

Here's what our customers say

Jana (June 25, 2023)

A great gift with a sustainable aspect. I ordered the marbles to give as party favors at my child's birthday party. Since I don't need all 10 bags for that, I've already given some away to both adults and children, and everyone loved them.

Daniela H. (06.07.2023)

We ordered seed bombs for a children's birthday party and asked if they could also send us the instructions as a PDF (one was already included in the package). That was absolutely no problem, and we were able to easily give each child a printout.

Maike (06.12.2023)

I give my friends and family the wonderful products from Stadtgärtner whenever I can. Everything is so thoughtfully and thoughtfully designed, packaged in an environmentally friendly way, and delivered promptly within 24 hours. So they're always great for last-minute gifts too! 👍

Mariam H. (May 10, 2023)

Fast shipping and everything as expected. The little flower marbles (in small bags) will be our party favors for the First Communion and were very enthusiastically received by the child! We also included the fish and sayings. 😉

Maren (January 18, 2023)

Fast and undamaged delivery. The set is a great way to keep children entertained. Everything is included – except water. Easy to understand.

Catha (12.10.2021)

I made the flower bombs with my daughter and handed them out as party favors at her kindergarten birthday party. They were a big hit. A few were left over and dried without sprouting. I'm curious to see if the next ones will bloom just as beautifully.

Alisa (February 25, 2022)

We bought the flower marbles as an extra gift for our friends' daughter. I had expected the package of marbles to be a bit bigger, but otherwise I'm very happy with our choice. The packaging is cute, and there's also an extra instruction leaflet included on how to use the marbles. Everything is illustrated and described in a very child-friendly way. We can't say anything about the results yet, as the family plans to plant the marbles in the spring/summer. But it will certainly be exciting for the children! For the price, you get some excitement and fun, and you're supporting a German company.

Michaela (07.03.2021)

A wonderful gift idea! I gave these flower marbles to my colleagues as a summer greeting in 2020. During the holidays, I received many photos of the roadsides where the marbles had landed, or of the first buds and blossoms. The motto "what goes around comes around" was perfectly apt. Thank you for your great ideas!
