The story of Father’s Day
Have you ever wondered why we actually celebrate dad? The tradition of Father’s Day as we know it today has two roots. In Germany, it is closely linked to the Christian holiday of Ascension Day. As early as the 19th century, there were customs here where the men of the village went out together.
At the same time, in the early 20th century, "Father’s Day" was established in the USA as a counterpart to Mother’s Day, initiated by Sonora Smart Dodd, who wanted to honor her father, a Civil War veteran and single parent of six children. Today, the day is above all one thing: a wonderful opportunity to simply say "Thank you" to your dad.
When is Father’s Day?
In Germany, we traditionally celebrate Father’s Day on Ascension Day. That is always exactly 40 days after Easter, which is why the date varies every year. Usually, the special day for dads falls in May, the perfect time to get active outdoors in the garden or on the balcony and plant something new.

I ordered two sets at the end of July and gave one away, which was very well received. The packaging is very nice and so is the variety of *bombs*. This year, I haven’t dared to just throw seed bombs into the landscape because of the dryness. But something is already growing in the flower box; whether the plants will grow big, I don’t know, it’s already late in the year. And my friend also had bombs sprout in her garden. Next spring, we’ll really get started.
