Our handcrafted decorative products will make your home even more beautiful! Our years of experience as gardeners, as well as our love for beauty and uniqueness, have gone into the design of our high-quality greenhouses, brick molds, and garden shelves. Let yourself be inspired!

1. What were the brick molds originally used for?

Wooden brick molds were originally used to produce handmade, hand-molded bricks. Clay was slapped into the mold and pressed firmly. The brick was then dried in the sun and finally removed from the mold, which could then be used to make the next brick. While the last hand-molded brickworks in Germany closed as early as 1949 (see "From Brick God to Industrial Electronics Technician," page 178), many bricks are still produced in this way in India today. It is a physically demanding job, performed primarily by women.

2. What material are these molds made of?

The mango wood brick molds are handcrafted in India by a certified workshop adhering to ISO 9001 standards. This certification ensures that production is meticulous, ethical, and carried out under fair conditions. They are made from mango wood, which in India is typically burned directly on the fruit plantations, as the trees are replanted every five years. This wood not only gives the brick molds their authentic appearance but is also sustainable. Our brick molds are further enhanced with metal fittings. An additional natural and chemical-free shellac finish ensures exceptional durability. Each brick mold is a handcrafted, unique piece, resulting in its own individual look. Our urban gardener logo is laser-engraved on the bottom.

3. Can the brick mold be placed outside on a windowsill?

It's best not to. If the mold gets wet occasionally but always dries quickly and thoroughly, then it's not a problem. However, if the brick mold remains damp for an extended period, the wood will deteriorate after about 1.5 to 2 years. The metal fittings will also begin to rust well before that. So, if your exterior windowsill is somewhat sheltered, meaning the brick mold only gets wet in strong winds, then it's okay. Otherwise, we would advise against it.

And one more tip for indoor use: We recommend using felt pads on delicate surfaces. The metal side brackets are nailed to the wood at the bottom, which can create sharp edges.

4. How can these wooden brick molds be used?

Although the wooden molds were originally used for brickmaking, they look like they were designed by a professional. They are simply beautiful, unique, decorative boxes and storage solutions. They can be used as decorative containers to stylishly display small items such as books, magazines, or personal mementos. Thanks to their sturdy construction, they are also ideal for storing toys, towels, or other household items. With a little creativity, they can even be used for upcycling projects, such as plant stands or wall shelves.

5. What are the brick shapes suitable for?

These wooden crates are a perfect match for various decorating styles. Whether you prefer shabby chic, vintage, country, or industrial, these brick-shaped crates look great anywhere. With their rustic look, they blend seamlessly into your home and create striking contrasts. You can get especially creative with wooden crates in the living room. Mount them on the wall to create a vintage wooden shelf (you can also use our wall bracket for this). Then decorate them with small pictures, houseplants, or other decorative objects. For a shabby chic look, you can paint them white and adorn them with light-colored floral arrangements. In the kitchen, these brick-shaped crates are not only decorative but also practical. You can use them to store tea, baking ingredients, or spices. Our lid for the brick-shaped crates is a great addition here. They also make stylish organizers for kitchen utensils. Many customers also use the wooden crates in the bathroom, where they serve as practical storage for various items. You can also use them as mirrors or toilet paper holders to give your bathroom a vintage or nautical touch.

6. Do I need to line the brick mold with waterproof foil before planting?

No, a plastic sheet isn't absolutely necessary if you water sparingly. Of course, if you want to be on the safe side, you can use one. Just be sure to avoid waterlogging.

We hope you find the perfect wooden decoration for your home here and wish you lots of fun browsing and decorating!

Brick mold with one compartment

Second purchase and just as smooth as before!! Great product and simply beautiful. Highly recommended. :-)

Claudia (20.12.2023)

Brick mold with 4 compartments filled with garden tools

The question is: will my husband get the 4-pack and the 6-pack for Christmas? Or which ones should I keep for myself? My daughter saw them and wants one too... And the fact that such "old boxes" were packed so carefully and lovingly that opening the packages is a joy – thank you, city gardeners!

Bernd (31.12.2023)

I used the brick mold as a small, decorative, and rustic "gift basket." The gift was very well received.

Brick mold with one compartment

A very nice decorative brick mold. I would buy it again in a heartbeat :) It's used in the bathroom for storing perfumes and toiletries!

Seedling/Greenhouse

I decided to put some low-maintenance plants in this very well-made greenhouse. Opening it every day would be too much of a hassle. The greenhouse creates a pleasant climate inside, so the plants don't need much watering. It looks decorative and can be filled on multiple levels by raising pots with stones or pieces of wood. I would buy it again, even though it's more expensive than greenhouses in garden centers or furniture stores. It's unique, beautiful, high-quality, and decorative, and I support the urban gardeners' philosophy of sustainability, inclusion, and high-quality products.

Brick mold with 4 compartments

Very nice and sturdy. I'm currently using it for small flower vases on the patio table.
