Seed bombs vs. wildlife

In recent months, we've unfortunately received several negative reviews for our seed bombs . The comments often include: "Shipping was incredibly fast, the products are even more beautiful than expected, and the recipient was delighted, but unfortunately, the seed bombs were eaten by birds and snails shortly after being released." Overall rating: 1 star. First of all, a general note: Our seed balls are a natural product, handcrafted from 100% organic raw materials. They're accordingly popular with animals. Therefore, we can't prevent them from sometimes indulging in the seed bombs (and looking at our seed bombs, we can't even blame them...mmm).

The question remains: what can be done about it (apart from chemicals)? After trawling through numerous forums, blogs, and magazines, we've come to the conclusion: Not much. Especially with guerrilla gardening, the idea is to quickly and easily green urban wastelands. The only other tip that fits is to tread theseed bombs a little into the soil with your foot to make it harder for birds and snails to reach them. All other seed protection tips actually go too far for guerrilla gardening. But we still don't want to withhold them from you:

  1. As mentioned above: Press the seed bomb into the soil so that it is slightly covered with soil. This way, snails and birds can no longer reach it.
  2. After New Year's Eve, collect the thin wooden sticks from the rockets and place four or five of them in a tight circle around the seed bomb. This way, they'll be "behind bars" for the birds.
  3. Throw the seed bombs at a time when the seeds are growing quickly (April/May). This gives the birds less time. Generally, birds don't really start eating seeds until late summer. Until then, they prefer to hunt for insects.
  4. Borrow a cat, which will help as a deterrent. Alternatively, CDs in the tree and a bird decoy or scarer also work.
  5. Collect snails once a day and release them about 150km further away (it's best to simply place the bucket discreetly in a long-distance train)
  6. Stretches a tight net over the seed bomb
  7. Quit your job and keep watch
  8. Just throw more seed bombs: Eventually all the birds will be full :)

One last tip from us: Simply throw some service tree seeds into your garden and enjoy watching birds peck at them. These seeds only germinate once they've passed through a bird's intestines.

If you have any other tips for protecting seeds in general or seed bombs in particular, we would be happy to hear from you in the comments!

                Thanks & regards,
