Our environment

Ever since we began, we have wanted to make the world a more colorful place and support people in giving themselves and their loved ones something beautiful while doing good at the same time. This also includes keeping our ecological footprint as a company as small as possible. It starts with recycled packaging materials, continues with creating colorful flower meadows, and certainly does not end with a great deal of team spirit. 

See for yourself: 

• We have already created 35 soccer fields' worth of colorful flower meadows: Together with our flower meadow sponsors, we have planted 25 ha of valuable (and tasty) habitat for countless insects. And: Many other animals also benefit from our wild meadows! Breeding and nesting birds, rodents and small animals, as well as deer and their fawns, find peace, protection, and shelter among the tall flowers. => Learn more
  
  
• We are organically certified: Many of our seed products are already organic, and many more will follow - we are working on this with great dedication and passion. => View certificate
  
  
• We ship climate-neutrally: Shipping is the biggest environmental problem in e-commerce. To make at least our small contribution here, we use as little packaging as possible, reduce our parcels to a minimum size, and rely on DHL for shipping. Because we believe DHL has taken the most credible path toward truly climate-neutral shipping.
  
  
• We recycle: A large percentage of our packaging material comes from old cardboard boxes. We produce it ourselves with our shredding machine. This turns what appears to be waste into something useful, and your order arrives safely!
  
  
• We have received awards: We also feel committed to our environment and our fellow human beings in the area of promotional products. With our growing products and promotional items, we strive to offer an ecological alternative to the classic, mostly plastic promotional products in the world. In 2016, PSI recommended us as a Sustainable Product for this reason.
  
  
• We rely on caring craftsmanship: We place our trust in the many hardworking hands at Lebenshilfe and other workshops for people with disabilities - especially in northern Germany. This brings numerous benefits for both sides: short distances, local partners, and social responsibility. Our products are 100% handmade in Germany.
  
  
• We love what we do and who we do it with: We are urban gardeners both outwardly and inwardly. The appreciation and growth of our employees are especially important to us. That is why we also cultivate a cheerful and colorful atmosphere within our teams. 

Small Urban Gardeners environmental statistics:

• With our 25 ha of flower meadows, we had already stored 2,500 tons of CO2 in 2021.
  
  
• In 2021, our animal food had already fed more than 90,855 birds, 7,748 hedgehogs, and 12,015 squirrels.
  
  
• Through the Bee Welfare campaign, we donated €1,867.06 to bee rescue projects in 2020.
