The pickle is hung somewhat hidden in the Christmas tree branches. Thanks to its color, it's not easy to spot. The family member who spots the lucky pickle first receives an extra gift or gets to start unwrapping the presents.
This tradition originated in Thuringia, but is now particularly popular in America, and from there it's found its way back to Germany. A fun tradition that brings joy every year.

Die Geschichte von Inge Glas
1597
Unser Vorfahre Christoph Müller gründet die Mutterglashütte in Lauscha. Heute sind wir als Glasbläserfamilie in 15ter Generation diesem Handwerk verbunden.
1951
Der Materialmangel in der DDR lässt viele Glasbläser aus Thüringen in die BRD fliehen. Auch Heinz Müller-Blech verlässt Lauscha und lässt sich 1951 nur wenige Meter hinter der Grenze in Neustadt bei Coburg nieder, wo er eine Glasbläserei für Christbaumschmuck gründete.
1987
Das Sternkrönchen® wird als geschütztes Markenzeichen eingeführt. Es ist ein Garant dafür, dass jedes damit verzierte Ornament ein nach jahrhundertealter Tradition gefertigtes Unikat aus der Inge-Glas® Manufaktur ist. Es garantiert:
