Sustainable Christmas gifts: Give beautiful gifts and do good for the environment
The Christmas season is a very special time of year, when giving takes center stage. But amidst the consumer frenzy, the environment is often forgotten. Sustainable Christmas gifts offer a wonderful opportunity to delight your loved ones while simultaneously doing something good for the planet. In this article, you'll learn what makes a gift sustainable, and we'll provide you with creative and eco-friendly gift ideas, even showing you how to send sustainable Christmas cards.
What makes a Christmas gift sustainable?
Sustainability means conserving resources and choosing environmentally friendly alternatives. A sustainable Christmas gift should be produced under fair conditions, ideally regionally, and be environmentally friendly. This includes, for example, products made from recycled or natural materials, requiring minimal packaging, or ideally, being plastic-free.
This is how sustainability works for the city gardeners.
We, "Die Stadtgärtner" (The Urban Gardeners), produce our products in Nordhorn, Lower Saxony, using resource-conserving raw materials. With our green, growing products, we give something back to our environment. Furthermore, since our founding, we have collaborated with local workshops for people with disabilities. We also prioritize sustainability in our shipping and ship carbon-neutrally. In 2023, we were recognized by the German business community as Green Innovator of the Year.
Advantages of sustainable Christmas gifts
Sustainable gift-giving is twice the fun. Not only do you bring joy to a loved one, but you also do something good for the environment. With a sustainable Christmas gift, you actively contribute to conserving resources and reducing waste. You also support fair working conditions and avoid long transport routes by choosing regionally produced gifts. Last but not least, sustainable gifts also promote conscious consumption – moving away from "bigger, faster, further" towards less consumption and more quality.
Make everyone happy with sustainable Christmas gifts
The selection of sustainable Christmas gifts is now vast and has nothing to do with the "eco-cliché" that some used to associate with sustainable products. More and more companies are focusing on sustainable and resource-efficient production. We'll give you a few tips for sustainable gifts for...

Wish fulfiller: Wishes come true
Every spring, we scour the meadows in and around Nordhorn, picking dandelions for our wish-granters. Even as children, we blew on dandelions in the meadows, making a wish with each seed. Now you can give these good wishes to a loved one this Christmas. Because those who truly believe will discover that wishes often do come true!

Here's what our customers say
Fast, trouble-free delivery. Christmas gifts without chocolate. My colleagues will be delighted, and I'll treat myself too.
Excellent! Superb quality and very diverse. The calendar was a gift and was very well received. I'd gladly order again next year.
A dandelion as a gift. I used it for Christmas and it more than fulfilled its purpose. For me, it was the most beautiful gift I could give this year. For only €9.95, it was, as I said, truly a highlight of the evening. I love it, and so does the person who now has it.
The question is: will my husband get the 4-pack and the 6-pack for Christmas? Or which ones should I keep for myself? My daughter saw them and wants one too... And the fact that such "old boxes" were packed so carefully and lovingly that opening the packages is a joy – thank you, city gardeners!
Wow! The box is big! (45 x 38.5 x 13.5 cm) And it has 24 openings on all sides. :) (You can see them in the pictures, but I hadn't noticed.) It looks really good, professional, and well-made. I'm more than 100% sure the contents will be as good as they look. It's a gift for my mother, who lives in the countryside with a large garden and squirrels visiting her. She's going to love it.
I gave these wish-granting gifts to my team as a small Christmas surprise. The dandelion was very well received. In my opinion, the price/performance ratio is also excellent. Anyone with bigger wishes should get the whole dandelion; it's absolutely beautiful.
I gave the suet balls as a small Christmas gift. Even the packaging shows so much attention to detail. The shop also has many other beautiful and creative items. I will definitely order again next time, give more products as gifts, or maybe even try some myself. A clear recommendation from me! :-)
Sweet Christmas gift
I've only given it as a gift and haven't tried it myself yet. But it was sweetly packaged and brought a smile to the recipient's face ♥️
Great gift idea for Christmas
Fantastic packaging, great instructions! Now we just hope the spruce seeds germinate and we have a wonderful Christmas tree 🌲 from the city nursery in 2030!
I ordered the seed bombs as Christmas gifts for friends and family. They arrived quickly and were lovingly packaged. Thank you! The instructions are also great – wittily written and beautifully designed. I attached them to the packages with ribbon, and with a few star stickers, they make the perfect, original Secret Santa gift. Whether things will soon become more colorful and green around here remains to be seen in the spring.
